The New York Post reported on a victim of a related betting case. The scheme used to scam him didn’t involve an NBA coach, but a former NFL player. However, this case’s intersection with the NBA betting case is a Texas jeweler—Meeks, who is also one of the 31 defendants and a provider of gambling equipment. This victim was scammed out of one million dollars overnight in a setup. The front man (decoy) for the setup was the former NFL player.
The high-end gathering to meet the star athlete in a public place was temporarily changed to the athlete’s private apartment; upon entering the room, the betting stakes were temporarily doubled; chips were issued first, with settlement afterwards, so in the end, he lost absolutely everything. A friend of the victim saw through the scam before the gambling started and left on the spot. But he still couldn’t escape being continuously intimidated by gangsters for weeks. Everyone who lost bets was dunned for debt by the gang and scammed out of everything.

❶ This report implies similar cases are under investigation. It is known that besides the NBA betting ring, there is at least one other case under prosecution, and the investigation may expand to the NFL and other sports leagues.

He was responsible for delivering CCP-produced fentanyl precursors, methamphetamine raw materials, and formulas to Mexican drug labs, and even arranging for chemists to train local drug-making teams on-site.
Both “Sinaloa” and “Jalisco” have been designated by the U.S. as narco-terrorists; “Jalisco” even has an office in Shanghai, China.

▪︎ Zhang Zhidong escaped smoothly in Mexico. The judge held court in the middle of the night; he was transferred from a high-security prison to a private residence to await trial; the residence happened to be right next door to the criminal group; he escaped through a wall, discarded his electronic anklet, and flew on a private jet to Cuba. The judge said there was nothing to be done and just issued a Red Notice.
▪︎ Zhang Zhidong made a narrow escape and originally planned to flee from Cuba to Russia. The result was that at the Russian border, he was denied entry by Russia on the grounds that he used fake documents. Zhang was repatriated to Cuba.
▪︎ Zhang Zhidong was detained in Cuba and then interrogated for a long time to gather intelligence on his criminal network across China, Mexico, and the U.S. When did Cuba become so “righteous”? ▪︎ The content involved fentanyl, export controls, the 301 investigation, Taiwan, tariffs… but he didn’t say how these topics were discussed, and certainly didn’t say the U.S. made concessions.
